$2.5 Million Gift Announced for UAlbany’s School of Criminal Justice

[music begins] A university, especially a public
university, is a very special place. All of us are where we are today because of
the help and support of others. I’m Alan Lizotte. I’m a distinguished
professor in the School of Criminal Justice and I’m also the former dean. My name is Lisa Jackson. I’m married to Alan Lizotte. Alan: We’re both first-generation college. People come to the University of Albany
who were first-generation college and they need a break, they need help. The University has been very good to me over the years and good to both of us
actually. And so we settled in on that we’d like to have an endowed professorship in
the School of Criminal Justice and also a scholarship fund for graduate students. Alan and Lisa’s gift is is really tremendous to the school in many ways. To be able to have an endowed professorship will allow us to recruit major senior
scholars to the program and to keep the best scholars in the field of
criminology and criminal justice right here at UAlbany. And gifts like this which allow us to recruit and retain the best PhD students in
the field is extremely important. The School of Criminal Justice invented the
area of criminal justice. There was no such thing before the school existed. It’s really a unique place and it really needs to be preserved. (Dean Pridemore) There’s really
just a really rich tradition here. We helped to start the field and Alan has
been part of that in the flourishing of our school. And so for he and Lisa
to leave a gift like this given the legacy that he’s already provided to the school in terms of his scholarship and leadership is really tremendous. When you get a college education what you’re getting is a way of thinking about the world and that’s why giving this money to the university is so important. We are in the middle of a campaign and we thought that this would be a good
time to support the university. We want to make a difference in the world. And this is our time to do that. We are fortunate that we were able to do
so and so pleased that we can I can’t thank them enough. The school can’t thank them enough. and it’s going to provide a benefit long long long into the future.
