Because of a scholarship, I had the opportunity to travel outside of the United States to learn about another country. This amazing learning experience only happened because of donors, who through their gifts allow students like me to dream big and to experience the unimaginable. But when a student has ongoing thoughts of, “How will I pay for my books next quarter?” Or, “Should I skip lunch today and save a few bucks?” They simply cannot do their best in school. And to all the donors here today I thank you as well because all of you are helping students like me make it through college with a lot less stress, and making it possible for us to achieve our goals and dreams. If I wanted to break the cycle of poverty, I had to get an education. I found stability when I got accepted into UCR’s Guardian Scholars Program. Without the support I received during my four years as an undergraduate, I would have not graduated with my bachelor’s of Arts in Liberal Studies cum laude in June 2017.
