Adriana Pachuca Speech – 2017 Scholarship Banquet

good evening my name is Adriana and I’m
so excited for you all to be here what a wonderful group to sit around and hear
your stories so let me tell you quick tidbit about myself I’ve been through a
lot I’ve had to fight for my right to work I’ve had to live off a two-year
working permit I’ve had no financial aid in any of my lifetime
I am the first one to graduate any sort of college I actually came when I was 2
years old from Mexico and I came and I had open-heart surgery I have a single
mother I have an alcoholic father that I never talked to maybe once a year my
list can go on just like everyone else is but I also have a lot of positives I
graduated green rivers LPN program this year and and that was thank you to the
scull Atlantan welcome button and Wilma scholarship that I received from Green
River green rivers scholarship program I work at Auburn Medical Center and I have
stability I’m able to pay my way through life and I can also help my community
which is a big thing because I’m debt free which is huge you know there’s
there’s no way to live life if you don’t have stability and that’s why I’m on the
Green River board I believe that education in my opinion is the
foundation of life it gave me the knowledge in my career it helped me to
give make good decisions and it taught me responsibility and I think that’s
every every young person’s thing that they should go through is to be able to
say yes to their education and have a lot of support and that’s why I chose
Green River all the people that I’ve met here have been so kind I meet them with
a smile and the best part is that they remember my name they meet me once and
were able to make a connection and learn about each other and talk both ways and
I’m able to hear about their stories have you ever talked to your teacher and
wondered how they became a teacher and why they did it it’s because of the
students and the people they meet along the way
and I that’s why I came to Green River it’s a
place that values diversity education and its students and that’s amazing I
don’t know if you’ve heard about the Green River scholarship but it’s amazing
it the program and the people that work with it I’ve gotten to know so well
after being a part of the board I wish I could go through all the stories and all
the people that we’ve helped along the way because we’re all in the same
position we all have struggles we all see difficulties but we can overcome
them there’s people out there who believe in you they don’t even know you
but they believe in you because at the end day we are the community we are the
people we are the future and it’s a circle of life I hope that everyone here
that received a scholarship that once you become stable you come back and
you’re able to help a student that was just like you two years ago because two
years ago I never thought I’d be standing up here and I’d be able to say
yes I can help you out I can give you the resources I can help you find a way
to make your dreams come true whether it’s gonna be an engineer a nurse a
teacher or even I don’t know there’s so many different careers that you could
pick and you can choose and with that I’d like to thank one of the honor one
of the people that I’ve been here for 25 years and have been a part of the Green
River scholarship foundation since 2000 she is an amazing person she reads
through all the scholarship recipients and we trust her to help everyone when I
first met her she helped me she put laid everything out for me she told me how to
apply for the scholarship what to expect and she reached out to me quickly it was
just so nice to have someone in a connection to and understand that I
could trust someone you know because when you come to school you never know
if someone’s actually there to help you or if they’re just there for their job
and I would like to thank Beth Katz Gatzke Beth why don’t you come on up here and
while she’s walking up here as well as some of the other people who work on the
board George Megan Patsy Matt and Monica
because all of these staff are able to help this Scholarship Foundation come
true I mean look how big it’s gone and how many scholarship recipients have
helped and been able to go out to the community and do amazing things you
