BU Scholarship Story: Michelle Xia (CAS’15)

Ever since I was
little, my parents used to travel with
me a lot, so I think that’s why I love it so much. I think I liked that BU had
such a global aspect to it. It’s so internationally
connected. I have a lot of friends who
are from China, and Kazakhstan, and Morocco. It was really nice to get
different interactions. They all have
different cultures, so it’s cool to learn
about their culture and experience it with them. And when I was
choosing a college, I think a very
big part of it was making sure that it had
a study abroad program. I was born in China,
so I always wanted to keep in touch with
the international aspect of my life, I guess. I went last summer for
the liberal arts program, so I was there for six weeks. And being able to
go to another city, I think, and experience,
like the culture there and how different it is, it
really enriches your experience at BU I think. I enjoyed everything
I did there, and I went to the museums a lot. I didn’t realize how big
of a nerd I was until then. So I’m the recipient of a
half-tuition scholarship from BU, and that was actually
a big part of the reason I was able to come to BU. It really helps me, being
able to study abroad, which was one of my dreams
for a very long time. So with the scholarship that
helped me with my tuition in the regular
semester, that made me be capable to go study abroad
in the summer, which I really appreciate. So I just learned that I got
accepted into the BU study abroad London program
again for this summer. I got accepted to the
Economics and Finance program, so this time I’ll
actually be interning with a real business in London
and experiencing all the fun that goes along with that. Just being able to come
here and having that dream realized not once, but
twice, is so amazing. I think that BU really
has given that to me, and I’m eternally grateful. [MUSIC]
