City College Downtown (CWE) Class of 2019 Valedictorian Denise Carter-Mataboge

My name is Denise Denise Carter-Mataboge and
I am a member of the class of 2019; as well as having the honor of being the
valedictorian of the class of 2019. I am a mother of two teenagers; I am a New Yorker born in the Bronx, currently living in Brooklyn Bedford-Stuyvesant section. I learned about CWE after I was accepted into a sister
school; and what I found was that the school that I was accepted to although
it was a great program wasn’t really accessible for commuting so I was
looking for a school that had a great reputation as well as being accessible
and in lower Manhattan there’s so many connections so many different ways to
get to cwe so I got the added bonus of having great professors as well as being
able to commute back and forth throughout relatively easily. One of the
things about CWE is that I’ve learned so much that when I graduated I had so many
different areas that I wanted to explore but I think that my passion has been
education and that’s what I would like to pursue so I will be pursuing a career
in education in the very near future. You know the great thing about CWE is that I was exposed to so many things that when it was time to think about my future I
had so many different areas that I wanted to explore but I think that I
want to be involved in education so I am looking to pursue a master’s degree in
teaching. If you’re thinking about going back to school, just do it and don’t let
excuses like financial or time or anything keep you from pursuing your
dream. CWE is structured to work with adults like you like me and you can
figure something out. CUNY system is financially accessible so
don’t let money or time or anything like that keep you from pursuing your dreams.
