Discover DMACC: Student Wins $320,000 Scholarship

DMACC student Rashida Anderson walked
into class ready to listen to a macroeconomic lecture given by the
visiting Boone DMACC Professor Nancy Woods slide after slide of admitted
nonsense was just a cover “we know that macroeconomics describes
the economy on the highest level of aggregation…” But being the student
Rashida is she actually started to take notes and then this happened: “…has won the
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship.” A scholarship worth three hundred and twenty
thousand dollars toward a three-year undergraduate and four-year graduate
program. “I could be sleeping right now.” A dream come true. Still processing what
was happening her first thought were of her mother. “Even though I’m not able to
afford to go all the way to graduate school that’s still something that I
should dream, for and hope for, and work towards. So, my mom definitely inspired me.” “Right now, it’s just kind of surreal.” Marie works at DMACC Urban Campus. She thought she had a meeting today but instead met with her daughter for a
life-changing moment that came full circle. “I am a single parent. I went
back to school after fifteen twenty years and not being in school I had to
kind of try to start all over and I told her hey if I can do it you can do
it.” Rashida will graduate in May, now
without a worry about what’s next and how she’ll get there.
“I can’t wait to figure out what my future’s going to be now. I didn’t really anticipate to get this scholarship. so. now I dream as big as I want.”
