Elementary Education at UVM

(bright music) – I chose this career path because I’ve always
enjoyed working with kids. It’s always kinda been a strength of mine. The culture within the CESS community is very collaborative and very supportive. Being in education, there’s
a lot of group projects, working and learning together. So it’s always nice to
be able to bounce ideas off of each other and
problem solve together. Everyone’s committed to
each other and committed to making sure everyone’s being the best teachers that they can. My relationships with the faculty in CESS have been wonderful. They are all very accessible and open. They all just seem to
have a genuine respect and dedication to the students
that they are teaching. And just eager to train the
best teachers that they could. Probably the most interesting
and rewarding experience I’ve had would be my student teaching. I worked with a wonderful mentor teacher in a class of 20 second graders. I really just felt like
I was kind of coming into my own as a teacher. And really, finally having a
chance to practice and hone in on those skills that we
learned in the classroom and that professors have talked about. And gathering those experiences and skills and having just that
ongoing, really great support from the faculty and
staff just helps me build that confidence and that assurance that this was a good place for me to be.
