How to Get a High GPA in High School Easily // Get Good Grades the Smart Way!

Hey guys, in this video, I’ll sharing with
you all 3 simple, yet uncommon tips on how to get a high GPA in high school easily so
that you can get good grades the smart way. Tip number 1: If you want a high unweighted
gpa or if you’re trying to improve your high school unweighted GPA, take extra classes.
While most high school students take 6 classes each year, you’re actually allowed to take
up to 7 classes. And the 7th class will usually fall under the category of a zero period.
Zero period classes start before your first period class so you’re still getting out
of school at the same time as everyone else. And the benefit is that most zero period classes
have easier grading requirements than normal classes, so you have a higher chance of getting
an A. In regard to your unweighted GPA, it doesn’t matter if your zero-period class
is an AP, honors, or regular class since unweighted GPA’s don’t give extra points for AP and
honors courses. Along with zero period classes, you can also increase your unweighted high
school GPA by taking a class over the summer. And it’s worth noting that not ALL summer
schools make you take a 5 hour long class. My high school offered 5 hour long summer
classes while the high school next door offered 2 hour long summer classes so I’m sure you
can all guess which one I picked. And while summer classes are a great way to boost your
unweighted GPA, they also allow you to get rid of certain class requirements, so you
don’t have to take that class during the school year. Like for me, I sucked at spanish
so I took a spanish course over one of the summers so I wouldn’t have to take it during
the school year. Tip number 2: If you want a high weighted gpa or if you’re trying
to improve your weighted high school GPA, take less classes. Okay so you’re probably
really confused right now since I mentioned earlier that you should take extra classes
to increase your unweighted GPA but now I’m saying that you should less classes to increase
your weighted GPA? Well long story short, Tips 1 and 2 generally go against each other.
Say for instance you have a 3.8 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted GPA. If you take a
lot of extra regular classes and get A’s in them, your unweighted GPA will get closer
to a 4.0 while your weighted GPA will fall from a 4.2 and get closer to a 4.0 GPA as
well. However, there is a way for you to reap the benefits of both tips. If you take extra
honors or AP classes instead of taking more regular classes, then both your unweighted
and weighted GPA will increase. Don’t worry if you’re confused right now, I promise
it’ll all make sense by the end of this video so for now just bear with me. Tip number
3: Take easy classes. This might seem obvious, but most people confuse easy classes with
regular classes and that’s not always the case. I’ve taken AP classes that were much
easier than some of my honors and regular classes solely because of the teacher. Teachers
can literally make or break your GPA just based on how harshly they grade tests or essays.
So, my advice is to ask around and find out which teachers are the most lenient in terms
of grading and take those classes. If you know an AP class that’s taught by an easy
teacher but you’re worried about failing the AP exam because of it, I wouldn’t worry
too much since you can always just buy a prep book and self-study for the exam. And honestly,
your AP exam scores are not nearly as important as the grades you get in AP classes. Here’s
a list of AP classes that are generally the easiest ones at most schools: AP psychology,
APES, APUSH, and AP statistics. But again, while the content in these AP classes might
be easier than the content in other AP classes, the class difficulty also depends on your
teacher. For instance, AP statistics, which should be easier than AP calculus, was actually
way harder than my AP Calc class because my AP stats teacher tried to make it feel like
a college class. The Final exam was worth 60% of our grade and my teacher told us that
literally half our class got a D or an F on the first two tests second semester. So, it
definitely wasn’t a senioritis-friendly class. Okay so now that we’ve gone over
the three tips to get a high GPA in high school, let’s connect them together so that you
can reap the benefits of all of them. I’d recommend taking a few classes over the summer
or adding a zero-period class during your freshman, sophomore, and junior year to boost
your unweighted high school GPA. And to keep your weighted GPA high, I’d recommend taking
an increasing number of AP classes or honors classes each year. When you get to senior
year, you can cut out a few regular classes and just take a class at a local community
college or a class online. This way it won’t look sketchy if you only have 5 classes during
the school year and you’ll be able to increase your weighted GPA significantly. To put this
in perspective, I took 3 AP classes and 4 regular classes in my junior year while I
took 3 AP classes and 1 regular class in my senior year. Yet despite taking the same number
of AP classes and getting straight A’s both years, I had a 4.43 weighted GPA in junior
year while I had a 4.75 weighted GPA senior year. This difference is only due to having
less regular classes in my senior year. But the reason why it didn’t seem that sketchy
was because I took classes outside of my high school that year. And lastly, while I mentioned
that you should take easy classes to boost your weighted and unweighted GPA, you should
also take a few hard classes just to help improve your study habits and to prepare you
for classes that you’ll have to take in college. Just two or three hard classes per
year should be good enough and make sure that they’re classes that you feel like you still
have a good chance at getting an A in if you work hard. Alright guys, that’s it for this
