Hey, I’m Landis with the Oklahoma College Assistance Program. We work with people in all phases of the student loan process and we receive a lot of questions. Today, Sarah Y. from Broken Bow asks us, I’ve missed some payments on my student loans. Can I get back on track? That’s a great question Sarah. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and you have problems making your student loan payments. But don’t worry, you have options. The best thing you can do is talk to your servicer. They can help you explore all of your options, like switching to a more affordable repayment plan, or even postponing your payments with a deferment or forbearance. But do this as soon as possible so you can avoid default. Defaulting on your student loans can have really negative consequences, like wage and tax garnishment or even damaged credit. If you’ve already defaulted on your student loans, it is possible to get back on track. But again, talk to your servicer and ask them about options like loan rehabilitation and consolidation. If you have a question for us here at OCAP, email us at [email protected] and your question could be featured in our next video.
