Kate shares her scholarship story.

My name is Kate Baker, and I’m studying my
Bachelor of Nursing. I’m a first year student at the Wagga Wagga
campus. I wanted to study nursing because my mum is
a nurse and my auntie was a nurse. I applied for this scholarship because I needed
some financial support. I work part-time and I didn’t want to have
to work as much and have that impact on my studies so I was hoping I could study more
and work less. My family’s really chuffed. They were a bit
surprised because I hadn’t told them that I had applied for it, but yeah, I think they’re
proud. I had an accident on my way home from uni
one day and I wrote my car off. When it all happened I thought that I would
have to quit studying that I would have to just keep working to pay off this car and
stuff and so I just thought my whole university career was just at an end
and then when I received the scholarship I didn’t have to stop doing what I was passionate
about. Like I could keep going and still not have
to work as much, I can still focus on my study, and the day that I picked up my new used car
was the day that I received the scholarship so it was a big deal, yeah. It was a bit of
a blessing, so. If I could say anything to my donor, it would
be that I’m so grateful and if I could positively impact someone’s life the way they have impacted
mine would be the biggest reward. This opportunity it really is about me moving
forward, following my dreams and achieving my goals.
