News in 90 with Hannah Yechivi – Scholarship Impact

What’s up Bulls, I’m Hannah and this is News
in 90. A college education is a big investment. Scholarships are an excellent way to make it more affordable. These are awards that are housed outside of USF and are usually coming from funding sources that are from private or public organizations
like the U.S. Government. I received the Critical Language Scholarship. My scholarship is the USF Latino Scholarship. I received both the Gilman and Freeman-Asia
Scholarship. The most successful students are the ones
that sort of second guess themselves in the beginning, but then end up being really really
good. Sometimes you don’t even know what you are
capable of, until you try! Scholarships are typically awarded to students
who demonstrate financial need, the USF Foundation awards over 7 million dollars in privately funded
scholarships to students each academic year. It can be extremely competitive, we had about
10 thousand students apply for scholarships last year but then we might have other scholarships
where maybe we only had 5 students apply, so you never know, you should always apply. I’m Jessica Barron with News in 90. I would like to thank the Latino Scholarship
program, because thanks to the opportunity they are giving me, I am going to be the first
one in my whole family to graduate from college. I would like to thank my donors: Carlos Gonzalez,
Tramain Whittely and Stephan Henry; they provided me the opportunity to be a better student. The University of South Florida works with
many generous donors to secure scholarship support. Im Hannah Yechivi with Housing and Residential
Education. We’re the Best Place to Live, Best Place
to Work, and the Best Place to Learn, I’ll see you next week.
