Scholarship Donor Veronique Henry

(gentle music) My name is Veronique Henry and I’m the Chair of Legal and Administrative Studies at Centennial College. I have a scholarship here at Centennial College, called the Kathleen St. Ange and Phillip McCalman Scholarship. It’s in the name of my maternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother. My grandmother, she was only able to afford an education up until grade four and after that, she basically went to work. My grandfather was in the Army and that was one of the few ways that men of his generation could provide a sound living for his family. I was just thankful to both of my grandparents for all of the love that they instilled in me and all the discipline they instilled in me and what they taught me about the importance of an education. I firmly believe that finances should not be a barrier to student success, and that’s one of the reasons that this scholarship is not based on academics, it’s based on financial need. I feel that no matter what walk of life you begin or what path you begin your life on, you can set your course and change your destiny, control your destiny, if you are able to access the education that you want or that you require to meet your goals.
