Scholarship Helps Students Achieve Goals They Thought Weren’t Possible

(inspirational piano music) – [Narrator] Chartered in 1946, the Lettie Pate Whitehead
Foundation is dedicated to the support of christian
women in financial need in nine southeastern states. Nearly 11 thousand
women from more than 200 educational institutions
receive financial assistance each year. – Clemson means a brighter
future, it means a career. It’s just opened up many
doors for me and given me hope that there’s more to life than being a high school
dropout and working as a server. – Clemson means I bleed orange and purple. Clemson means the sky is the limit. Clemson means family,
Clemson means opportunity, just, there’s nothing you
can’t do and it’s awesome. – My name is Carly Heventhal
and I’m a nursing student from Anderson, South Carolina. – My name’s Stephanie Robinson. Originally I’m from Baltimore, Maryland. I am a nursing major here
at Clemson University. – I applied for the Lettie
Pate Whitehead Scholarship in the spring of 2013 and
received it that following fall of 2013. – The Lettie Pate Whitehead
Scholarship is just like the blessing on top of the
blessing on top of the blessing. So then when I found out that
I got it, I was like oh yes! Like I swear, I probably screamed. – It’s given me an opportunity
to really just focus on school and get good grades. It’s also given me the
opportunity to not have to work and put myself into
debt through school loans. – And being able to
finish my nursing degree, you know, all in one
setting, like I don’t have to take out a whole bunch of loans. I don’t have to stop and start over again. It’s just great. – After graduation I plan
to hopefully get a job at AnMed. I want to stay in the Anderson area. I would like to do labor
and delivery or maybe ICU depending if I like it this
summer at my externship. – Like I said, I thought I
knew what I wanted to do. Either go back in the military as a nurse or go and work for the VA hospital. It’s opened all kinds of doors. I mean, Clemson is the
epitome of nursing schools to begin with, go tigers.
