THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WEST TEXAS RECENTLY SURPRISED RECIPIENTS OF THIS YEAR’S DON AND SYBIL HARRINGTON SCHOLARSHIPS. AND, LUBBOCK I-S-D IS PROUD TO HAVE FIVE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED THIS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD. FOUR OF THE STUDENTS ATTEND LUBBOCK HIGH, WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO CAPTURE THE SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT. — :24 Carson Freimuth / LHS Senior “Getting called in here and seeing all these people and seeing the cameras, I figured that this was a very big event.” :24 Sarah Cheatham / LHS Senior “It was a little weird walking in and seeing my family here on a normal school day, because my mom gave me no hints that this was going to happen.” :26 Monona Khare / LHS Senior “I was just really confused at first. I had no idea what was going on.” :44 Alexander Karamyshev / LHS Senior “I think I saw a sign that said Community Foundation of West Texas, and so I thought ‘Hmm, that sounds a bit familiar'”. “And so, we’re here to celebrate four scholarships.” :30 Cheatham “When we sat down, it was really cool to figure out that I’d actually gotten the scholarship, because I’ve been thinking about it for the past couple months.” THE DON AND SYBIL HARRINGTON SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS WHO PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION IN MATHEMATICS, PHYSICAL SCIENCES, AND ENGINEERING. :18 Khare “I’m going to go to Cornell University, and I plan on majoring in chemical engineering.” 1:49 Freimuth “I plan on getting a major in mechanical engineering and I’m potentially looking into working in energy in oil and gas.” 1:37 Karamyshev “Pursue a MB/PhD program to be a physician scientist. I eventually want to be able to develop treatment for diseases.” :55 CHeatham “Mechanical engineering degree, which I hope to use to get a graduate degree in energy systems so I can help develop clean energy. WITH BIG PLANS FOR THEIR FUTURE, THESE LUBBOCK HIGH SENIORS SAY THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. 1:20 Karamyshev “This is definitely a game changer, will definitely take the financial pressure off my parents.” 1:38 Freimuth “I’m going to not have to take out student loans.” AND THE GROUP IS HAPPY THEY COULD SHARE THE EXPERIENCE WITH ONE ANOTHER. :47 Khare “I have a lot of classes with them, so I know them really well, and I’m glad we could do this all together [D04]LISD TAG BLAKE MOORE FROM MONTEREY HIGH SCHOOL IS THE 5TH LUBBOCK I-S-D STUDENT TO RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP.
