5 thoughts on “Teen racks up 39 college acceptances, $1.6 million in scholarships

  1. Thats great, those 49 other schools she applied to and won't attend now have an empty seat that probably could have been filled by a white person, but oh no gotta give them reperations and make it all equal. Hilarious.

  2. Good for her, but it all seems unnecessary. In my (and literally all college advisors) option, applying to 15-20 schools is already more than enough. Apply to a few “reach” schools where you are slightly below average, but have some chances of getting in. Then 5+ schools where you are just about average. And finally a few safety schools where you are basically guaranteed to get in. It’s important to ONLY apply to schools where you will be happy going to even though they may not be your dream school. When it comes to colleges, quality is always more important than quantity. Why not save the money and time and use those resources to fully research the 15–20 schools you are applying to? Go on a tour for most if not all of them? At the end of the day, people won’t be impressed that you got into 40 random colleges that you never attended, but rather which prestige college you went to and got your degree from. (Unless you plan on putting “I got into 40 colleges” on your resume) I’m sure she’s a smart girl and I am happy she got 1.6 million in total scholarships, but the majority of those will not be usable. She’s only qualified for scholarships for the school she chooses to attend.

When I applied in 2015, I applied to about 15 schools and got into 12 of them. I didn’t get into my dream school, but I got a one year deferred transfer admission to an Ivy League school, which I was happy about. I went to one of the “in range” schools I got accepted into, which is still a very very good school and stayed because I didn’t feel the need to transfer after falling in love with my school. I also got into all my safety schools as expected and I honestly wouldn’t be upset going to those schools had I not been accepted elsewhere. Don’t bother applying to a bunch of schools you don’t even want to go just so you get more pointless acceptances and unusable scholarships. I mean let’s be honest, does she want to go to any of the 50 schools she applied to? I’m guessing unlikely…?

  3. Be a self empowered rising African american. Female. In a time of 2018-19 poundMeToo movement. And yes you will get alot of support. Because colleges want to say now move over ms. Chang. We got a new face of blossom now!

  4. David James Boyce, Jr.1 minute agoI am proud of you and your parents, great team effort.  Only you were in the seats. congratulations.  Stay focused.
