The Truth About College Financial Aid and Scholarships | Campus Advisers

– Quick question, when
it comes to the college financial aid and scholarships, I mean, what are some of the things that people need to be aware of when
it comes to this process? I mean, aren’t there lots
of college scholarships available for people and for students? – Well, there a lot of scholarships. But 90 to 95% of the
scholarships come through the colleges themselves,
meaning that college looks at an incoming perspective student and looks at their GPA, their test scores. So there’s merit-based scholarships, there’s athletic scholarships, talent-based scholarships, maybe leadership scholarships,
those type of things. But those come through the universities, the colleges and universities themselves. Most students and their
families tend to focus on the discretionary scholarships that make up five to 10% that come from maybe the Elks Club, the Kiwanis, there’s thousands and thousands of scholarships that are available. But that’s only five to 10%, because the majority of scholarships come through the colleges themselves. (contemporary music)
