The University of Memphis Social Work Student Assistance Scholarship

Hi. My name is Susan Neely-Barnes and I am chair
of Social Work at the University of Memphis. I am proud to tell you that I have over 400
students who are pursuing their degrees in Social Work. I also need to tell you that students in my
department experience greater financial hardship and have more family responsibilities than
typical university students. On average, my students come families that
have an annual income of $35,000. This is below the University of Memphis average
and far below the averages at many other universities. I know that when you decide to give money,
you have lots of options and want your donation to make a significant impact. The best way to help people out of financial
hardship and poverty is to help them complete a degree. By supporting a Social Work student, you are
not only helping that student, you are ultimately supporting the community by adding another
trained social worker to the field. I believe strongly in the value of the Social
Work Student Assistance Scholarship. That is why I donate to it every month. I hope you will join me and support my students. Hi. My name is Dominique Winters and I am Social
Work Alumna of the MSW Program. I am encouraging you to donate to the Student
Assistance Fund so that other students, specifically single mothers, will have an opportunity to
continue to pursue their education in spite of life’s hardships. I encourage each of you to give to this fund
so that students that have families will still have a chance to continue earning their degree.
