UIS Scholarship Luncheon 2019

UIS Scholarship Luncheon 2019

Today is our 23rd anniversary of our Scholarship
Luncheon here at UIS. We’re really excited about the opportunity. We may have close to 300 people here. That will be a record for this event. The UIS Scholarship Luncheon is really high
on our list of wonderful programs. It’s a great program. It’s a great opportunity for these generous
donors to get to meet the people that they’re actually helping directly. Hey, nice to meet you! Yes. I’ve heard so many good things about you. Yeah and I’ve heard good things about you. For me it’s a very emotional experience because
I remember when I met my donors and I was just so grateful and so thankful to them for
allowing me to have the opportunity and I saw that same glare and thanks in his eyes. For me, a good many years ago I obtained a
four year tuition free scholarship to University of Illinois. I feel it’s very important to pay back the
wonderful thing it was. It changed my life! The scholarship has impacted me in a way that
I can find the funds to actually travel and experience the world. I feel like this opportunity will increase
my awareness around the world globally, so I know how to communicate with a lot of people. This scholarship is a gift that keeps on giving. Every year we get to meet, often the recipients,
and that’s another whole gift. Just to get to know the young people that
are getting gifts. We love this scholarship. This is a wonderful program. I think the fact that people believe they
have to wait years and years to give back is a misconception. I always say that philanthropy doesn’t have
to be reserved for the rich and famous. Even you know $100 here… anything you can
give can help someone. You never know what seems to be a small amount
to you may be able to give somebody an opportunity that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. Our campaign goal for Reaching Stellar is
$40 million. As of about a week ago, we have topped the
$32 million mark. So we are a little more than 80 percent toward
our goal and we still have the better part of three years left in the campaign. So we are ecstatic about the level of support
we’ve received to date, but we still have a ways to go.
