I never thought that I would become a statistic until November 2009 when I found out I was pregnant. I remember my mother was there that day and she held me while I cried. Shame, shock, but overall happiness. I knew that I was going to do everything in my power to ensure that my daughter had a bright future and that should be proud of her mother. As you can see pregnant at 15 I definitely had the odds against me at finishing high school and going on to college. Thanks to the support and encouragement of my mother, I enrolled at Bucks. While taking care of my daughter is my first priority furthering my education is definitely a close second. While attending Bucks County Community College many doors have been open for me. I’m involved and events and organizations that I never thought possible for someone like me. While it’s been difficult to concentrate on education goals while obviously financial and family duties, I found a lot of support through the staff at the Lower Bucks Campus and they have eventually become like family to me. Anyone who knows me personally will tell you I’m proud person and a very high achiever but I am and I will always be humble. Because I know in this day and age, in this life we’re living, you can’t get very far in life without the help of others. My dreams are coming true because people like you believe in mothers like us. In the past 8 years 103 mothers have been awarded the Salute to Mothers Scholarship. And on behalf of all those recipients, I would like to thank you for your continued generosity. Your support keeps mothers like me from just becoming another statistic. Thank you.
