Wu Siefa Speech | 2018 Scholarship Banquet

Wu Siefa Speech | 2018 Scholarship Banquet

[♫] So hello hello hello. I am honored to be
here my name is Adriana and I believe in this Foundation. It wasn’t long ago that
I felt like a nobody I was living in fear of failure fear of tuition costs
whoo we all know how that costs fear of college success fear is strong enough to
make you doubt yourself to hold you back from opportunity but there is always
hope hope for the future and hope for the people struggling making it by each
day I mean honestly who can afford daily
living expenses and a full-time tuition cost
I couldn’t here here at Green River their support for sorry I’m still
thinking about her speech oh gosh here at Green River their support for
the hopes to become an engineer a business owner a nurse an artist and a
software developer there’s just a never-ending list and I choked up
because I’m thinking of all those people that I’ve talked to today and how hard
they work to get here so keep on going sorry those stories I’ve heard already
are just amazing did you know that it takes one person to make a difference
just one a teacher a staff member a volunteer a donor that is why I love
Green River College it is so much more than just a college it’s a campus that
supports positive attitudes respect cultural diversity and compassion a
community that grows students and the people around us that you see today
people working in the community who thought they would never be here
where they are today I never thought I would be here As a Gator nursing graduate working at
Good Samaritan Hospital as a Green River Foundation board member and as a donor
I–if you’re a family member keep on pushing your students to succeed
if you’re if you’re a student keep on working hard to achieve those dreams and
ambitions and if you’re a faculty member and a donor keep on working to make a
difference for the Green River students and if you’re a student I challenge you
to come back and be a part of the difference and saying yes to students
with that I am very proud to introduce Williwu Siefa a past student alumni

about 250,000 people died so growing up I saw was war poverty hopelessness
hunger you name it right so in 2003 when a civil war ending in Liberia my father
said it won’t be too smart for all the family to stay in Liberia so he tried
for me to come to the States and steady so he researched schools that’s one the
first school that pop-off was Greenville college even lived at Green River

experiences and I also had some struggles six months into my studies my
father lost his job and he my father was my sponsor and guess what my father has
passed now so in 2008 six most of my study I couldn’t a full monty wish’
things already harm me I could barely found food to eat I could
barely pay my rent I was hopeless until I met this guy by the name of George
Guzman a good friend Jorge Guzman told me about agreement of scholarship
program he told me their plans when I you know George told me to apply and I
didn’t know you know I just applied for the scholarship I didn’t know if I was
gonna get a scholarship on that so I applied for the scholarship few weeks
